A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Caltrain train on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Menlo Park. The crash happened near Alma Street and Sherwood Way, at a Caltrain grade crossing. Menlo Park Fire Protection District crews were called to the scene around 9 a.m., and the pedestrian was reportedly pronounced dead before they arrived.
According to the Palo Alto Daily Post, the San Mateo County coroner’s office identified the victim, and a Caltrain spokesperson said the agency has a policy of not commenting on deaths on the tracks. The Almanac reported that police closed nearby streets until shortly before 11:30 a.m., that Caltrain canceled several trains and single-tracked through the area, and that the train was released from the scene shortly before 11 a.m. The reports reviewed do not say what led to the crash or whether it was accidental, so the cause remains undetermined.
