A 38-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a Sound Transit train in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. near Second Avenue South and South Spokane Street as the woman was allegedly attempting to cross the railroad tracks. Seattle Police officers were the first to reach her and began life-saving efforts before Seattle Fire Department medics arrived. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition.
According to KING 5 Seattle, the train was stopped and Sound Transit halted service while officers and detectives investigated the collision scene. The Seattle Police Department’s official incident blotter confirmed that its Traffic Collision Investigation Squad, which handles serious injury and fatal collisions, is leading the follow-up investigation. Sound Transit’s S Line trains between Seattle and Pierce County were delayed, and at least two scheduled trips between Lakewood Station and King Street Station were canceled. No arrests or citations have been reported as investigators work to determine what led the woman onto the tracks.
