A man was struck and killed late Tuesday night on Beechnut Street in southwest Houston, on a stretch of road with a history of pedestrian fatalities. The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. near the intersection with Corporate Drive, when a pickup truck turning from Beechnut onto Corporate struck the man as he stood in a moving lane of traffic. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The man, believed to be in his 30s, was reportedly known to panhandle in the area, and his identity has not been released while authorities notify his family.
According to Hoodline, the driver of the maroon Ford F250 remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and showed no signs of intoxication. Houston police told ABC13 that it appeared the man was standing in the roadway when the driver made the turn and struck him. HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate, and Hoodline reports this marks at least the third fatal pedestrian crash on this same block since 2022. Beechnut Street is part of Houston’s High Injury Network, a designation for corridors with disproportionately high rates of severe crashes.
