A 37-year-old El Paso man died Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on Loop 375 near Transmountain Road, authorities said. The collision happened around 4:38 p.m. when a pickup truck traveling in the right lane struck a sedan in the left lane after what investigators described as an unsafe lane change. The truck’s driver was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries. The crash prompted a lengthy shutdown of Transmountain Road while crews worked the scene.
According to KFOX, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified the driver as Eric Reyes, a 37-year-old El Paso resident who was behind the wheel of a black Toyota Tacoma that struck a white Toyota Camry traveling in the adjacent lane. The outlet reported that Special Traffic Investigators, a specialized crash reconstruction unit within the sheriff’s office, took over the investigation from the initial responding deputies. CBS4 (KDBC) reported that Transmountain was closed in both directions near the Museums area for several hours, reopening around 10:30 p.m. The exact cause of the lane change remains under investigation.
