A wrong-way crash on U.S. Highway 67 near Danieldale Road in Duncanville, Texas, left one person dead late Thursday night. Authorities say a vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it struck an oncoming car and then clipped several other vehicles before coming to a stop. Firefighters had to extract one victim from the wreckage; that person was pronounced dead at the scene. Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies detained one person at the scene, and the investigation remains active.

According to WFAA, the collision involved a stolen vehicle and shut down the highway for hours overnight before lanes reopened. Neither outlet has released the identity of the person who died, and deputies have not said whether the detained individual will face charges. Crashes like this one, where a driver enters oncoming lanes on a divided highway, are among the most dangerous on Texas roads because of the high closing speeds involved.
