A Krum ISD student died and two other minors were injured in a single-vehicle crash on FM 1173 in northwest Denton, Texas, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Denton police said emergency crews responded shortly after 1 p.m. to the crash on FM 1173 eastbound toward Interstate 35, near Krum. A male juvenile passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital, the female juvenile driver suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized, and a second female juvenile passenger was treated and released. Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to the Denton Record-Chronicle, FM 1173 was shut down for several hours that afternoon while investigators used a drone to map the crash scene before the road reopened by evening. FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Krum ISD confirmed one of its students died in the crash and said the district would make counseling available to students and staff affected by the loss. Denton police have not said what caused the crash and have not released the identities of those involved.
