A teenage boy was killed and two teenage girls were injured Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2026, when the car they were riding in crashed on FM 1173 in northwest Denton, near Krum, Texas. The single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. as the car headed eastbound toward Interstate 35. All three occupants were juveniles: a teenage girl was driving, and the other two were passengers. One passenger died at the hospital, the driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, and the second passenger was treated and released.
According to the Denton Record-Chronicle, Denton police closed FM 1173 for several hours after the crash so investigators could use a drone to map the scene, and the roadway reopened by around 7 p.m. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Krum ISD confirmed the student killed attended the district and said counseling resources would be made available to students and staff. Police have not released the names of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
