A driver died after being shot just before her vehicle struck a pedestrian on West Virginia Drive in Dallas’s Red Bird area on the night of Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive the injuries from being struck. The driver, identified by police as 20-year-old Aniya Edwards, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died from her gunshot wounds. Investigators have not said whether Edwards was the intended target of the shooting or whether her vehicle struck the pedestrian as a result of being shot. No arrests have been made as both the shooting and the crash remain under active investigation.
According to CBS News, Dallas police responded to a shooting call around 8:25 p.m. in the 8000 block of West Virginia Drive and found the pedestrian who had been struck by Edwards’s vehicle at the scene. CBS News reports the pedestrian was transported in stable condition, while Edwards was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died there from her gunshot wounds. FOX 4 reports the shooting occurred in the Red Bird area and that Dallas police have not identified a suspect or a motive. Dallas police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective M.
