A 42-year-old mother from Bowie and her 5-year-old daughter were killed early Friday, September 25, 2026, when their SUV rolled over on State Highway 25 near Windthorst in Archer County, Texas. Sarah Kelley was driving a 2015 Mazda CX5 eastbound at about 2:06 a.m. when she reportedly lost control while negotiating a curve, left the roadway, and rolled the vehicle. Both Kelley and her daughter, a kindergartner in the Bowie Independent School District, were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety said both occupants had been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
According to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth, the crash remains under investigation and no citations have been issued as authorities work to determine what caused Kelley to lose control on the curve. The outlet reported that the 5-year-old’s name has not been released, consistent with DPS policy on minors involved in traffic crashes. Bowie ISD confirmed the child was a district kindergartner and said grief counselors would be available Monday to support students and staff. The tragedy has shaken the small Bowie community, roughly 100 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
