The Austin Police Department’s Highway Enforcement Investigations Unit is asking for the public’s help identifying a driver who fled after a two-vehicle collision in south Austin, according to an official APD news release. Police said the crash happened on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 9:29 p.m. in the 100 block of West Slaughter Lane, and that officers responded to an urgent crash call involving two vehicles.
According to APD, the suspect vehicle left the scene following the collision and the victim received minor injuries. Investigators described the suspect as a Hispanic woman in her mid-30s with short, dark hair, driving a dark-colored SUV; the case number is 26-2251535. As reported by KXAN, anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477, and a reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest. No arrest has been announced.

Texas Transportation Code § 550.021 requires a driver involved in a crash that causes injury to immediately stop, return to the scene, and remain there to give information and render aid. Leaving the scene of an injury crash is a felony offense in Texas.
Texas follows modified comparative fault (Civil Practice & Remedies Code Chapter 33): an injured person can recover compensation as long as they were not more than 50% responsible, with the recovery reduced by their percentage of fault. When a hit-and-run driver is never found, uninsured motorist coverage may apply.
