Nine people were hurt, five of them critically, when a car and a van collided and overturned on Telegraph Road in the Whittier area on Sunday night, ABC7 reported, citing the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash happened at Telegraph Road and Victoria Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, and AIR7 video from above the scene showed a van resting on its side and a car upside down on its roof, according to ABC7.
ABC7 reported that of the nine people hurt, five were listed in critical condition and four had minor injuries, with seven taken to area hospitals and two treated at the scene. CBS Los Angeles reported a somewhat different count from the same agency: that Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched around 9:10 p.m. near Telegraph Road and Biella Way for a two-car collision that left one vehicle on its side near a building and the other overturned on its roof in the middle of the street, and that crews found 10 people who needed medical attention and took all of them to nearby hospitals — three in critical condition, four with minor injuries and three with injuries not yet determined as of 11 p.m. CBS Los Angeles also reported that the intersection was closed for nearly an hour while authorities investigated and debris was cleared. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and no arrest, citation or charge has been reported.
