A 65-year-old man died after a gray SUV struck him in Escondido and the driver fled the scene without stopping, according to police. The crash was reported around 10:22 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, near the intersection of West El Norte Parkway and Escondido Boulevard. Officers found the victim critically injured in the roadway; paramedics transported him to Palomar Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The SUV involved is believed to have sustained front-end damage in the collision, and the driver had not been identified as of this report.
According to 10News.com, Escondido Police Capt. Ryan Hicks confirmed the man was struck by a vehicle whose driver “drove off” immediately after the impact. Hoodline reported that police closed West El Norte Parkway between North Broadway and North Centre City Parkway for several hours as investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence.
