A truck driver died early Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, after a semitrailer left the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County, Texas, about 18 miles west of Sierra Blanca and east of El Paso. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver went onto the outside shoulder for unknown reasons and struck a guardrail and then a concrete barrier. The tractor and trailer overturned and came to rest upside down, blocking two lanes. The tractor then caught fire, and the driver was trapped inside.
The El Paso Times reported that the driver, a Texas man, died at the scene and that the truck was fully engulfed in flames. KVIA, citing DPS, reported that he was pronounced dead at 4:49 a.m. and that the crash remains under investigation. Neither report says what caused the truck to leave the road, and no other injuries were reported.
