A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured on the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in a crash on eastbound Interstate 82 about 16 miles south of Kennewick. The trooper was in a marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights on, helping with a lane closure, when a passenger vehicle allegedly failed to yield and struck the patrol SUV. The trooper was taken to Lourdes Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly not hurt.
AppleValleyNewsNow.com reports that the crash happened at about 7:15 p.m. and that the State Patrol said a 30-year-old Hermiston woman failed to yield the right of way and hit the trooper’s vehicle. The outlet reports she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and that the crash remains under investigation. A second outlet, KEYW, reports that charges are pending and that both vehicles were damaged.
