A rollover crash on southbound Interstate 5 near DuPont in Pierce County, Washington, on Monday, October 5, 2026, left a 9-year-old girl with multiple broken bones and a stab wound, according to reports. The Washington State Patrol says an SUV hit the left-side barrier, veered to the right shoulder, then veered left and struck a semi truck before hitting the barrier again and rolling over. The vehicle came to rest near exit 118. The semi truck driver was not injured.
KOMO News reported that the 35-year-old Steilacoom driver allegedly attacked the two children in the vehicle with a knife after the crash, and that three people, including two JBLM soldiers, intervened and took the knife away. A 15-year-old girl had no serious injuries, and both girls were reported in stable condition. The woman was hospitalized for evaluation and, per KOMO, is expected to face allegations including DUI, vehicular assault and first-degree assault. Troopers believe she was under the influence, and the investigation is ongoing.
