A 19-year-old Houston man was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision on State Highway 18 in Winkler County, Texas. Jorge Luis Garcia was driving a Honda Accord north on SH 18 when it crossed the centerline and struck the front of a southbound Freightliner semi-truck near mile marker 336, according to investigators. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, identified as 55-year-old Luciano Flores Rodriguez of Wickett, was not injured.
NewsWest 9 reports the Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near County Road 401, and that both drivers were wearing seatbelts in clear weather conditions. The stretch of SH 18 was shut down in the area while troopers investigated and cleared the scene. DPS says the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no charges had been announced as of the outlet’s report.
