A 21-year-old Austin woman died after her motorcycle crashed on southbound Interstate 35 near exit 213 in Kyle, Texas, on the night of August 23, 2026. Witnesses told investigators the motorcyclist, identified as Angelina Duran, had allegedly been racing a gray Audi just before the crash. Duran was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Kyle police spent weeks working the case before making an arrest.
According to KVUE, Kyle police used witness statements, dash camera footage and automated license plate reader technology to identify the driver of the gray Audi as 20-year-old Alejandro Ortiz-Fernandez of Manor. Fox 7 Austin reported that Ortiz-Fernandez was arrested on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and charged with racing on a highway resulting in serious bodily injury or death, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The Hays Free Press reported that a Kyle Police Department representative said racing and reckless driving “can have tragic consequences” and that the department would continue enforcing traffic laws to protect roadway safety.
