A 9-year-old girl and her 6-year-old sister died after the Jeep Compass they were riding in collided with a Tesla Cybertruck at the intersection of the I-35 northbound frontage road and East Ben White Boulevard in southeast Austin. The crash happened around 7:41 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, according to the Austin Police Department. Lilliana Segura was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after the crash; her sister, Abigail Segura, remained in critical condition before dying from her injuries on September 15. Both drivers were also taken to local hospitals for treatment. The intersection was shut down for hours while officers investigated.
FOX 7 Austin reports that the Jeep was traveling north on the I-35 service road while the Tesla was headed west on the Ben White frontage road when the two vehicles collided. Austin police have not said which driver, if either, allegedly failed to yield, and both drivers are cooperating with investigators; neither was found to be intoxicated. APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and no citations or arrests have been announced. Abigail’s death was Austin’s 60th traffic fatality of 2026, according to FOX 7 Austin.
