A 43-year-old man died Monday morning after he tried to climb onto the ladder of a moving 18-wheeler in Central El Paso and fell into the path of the truck’s rear tires. The crash happened around 7:31 a.m. in the 1200 block of Myrtle Avenue, near Noble Street, as the Peterbilt semi-truck traveled westbound. Police say the man, later identified as Samuel Guzman, attempted to climb the truck’s ladder for reasons that remain unclear before falling and being struck by the tires. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations unit has taken over the investigation.
According to KFOX14, the circumstances of why Guzman attempted to climb the moving truck remain unclear and investigators have not released further details. KVIA reported that the crash marked the 43rd traffic fatality in El Paso this year, compared to 42 at the same point last year. No road closures were reported in connection with the crash. The investigation remains active, and no charges have been announced.
