A single-car crash on southbound State Route 167 in Renton, Washington, left a passenger with serious injuries early Thursday morning. The wreck happened around 2:30 a.m. near Southwest 43rd Street, when the vehicle rolled and came to rest on its roof. The crash first blocked the HOV lane and the left general-purpose lane before eventually shutting down all southbound lanes, backing up traffic for hours. The driver was arrested for vehicular assault after Washington State Patrol troopers said impairment is suspected.
According to KING5, troopers said the passenger suffered serious injuries and that impairment is suspected in the crash. The Washington State Department of Transportation reported that the Southwest 41st Street on-ramp to southbound SR 167, which had also been closed, reopened by 6:32 a.m., with one lane reopening around 7:10 a.m.; KOMO News reported the roadway fully reopened to traffic shortly after 8 a.m. WSDOT said there was no estimated time for a full reopening for much of the morning and urged drivers to expect delays. The case remains under investigation as prosecutors consider formal charges.
