A driver was killed early Tuesday morning after a white SUV struck a curb and embankment along West Bitters Road near Blanco Road on San Antonio’s North Side, launching the vehicle airborne into a wooden fence and two carports before it rolled over and caught fire. Police said the SUV was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed just after 2 a.m. when the driver apparently lost control. Emergency crews responded to an apartment complex in the 800 block of West Bitters Road and found the vehicle engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and at least one parked vehicle was also damaged in the crash.
According to KSAT, San Antonio police said the SUV hit the curb and embankment before becoming airborne, crashing through the fence and knocking down the carports. The outlet reported that the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the driver’s identity along with the cause and manner of death, since authorities have not released the victim’s name. KSAT noted that no other injuries were reported in the crash, though the impact damaged a parked vehicle and the apartment complex’s carport structures. Police told the outlet that the investigation into what led up to the crash remains ongoing.
