From our Santa Ana coverage — newest first

If you were hurt in a crash in Santa Ana, get medical care today, get the Santa Ana PD or CHP report number, and talk to a lawyer before you give the other driver’s insurer a statement or accept an offer. Beverly Law’s personal injury attorneys handle car, truck, motorcycle and pedestrian cases for Santa Ana residents — the report, the medical care, the vehicle and every call from the insurance company — in English or Spanish.
Santa Ana is one of the most crash-prone large cities in California: the Office of Traffic Safety ranked it 4th-worst of the state’s 15 biggest cities for people killed or injured in 2023, and 3rd for speed-related crashes. The corridors in our own Santa Ana coverage — Main Street, McFadden Avenue, Warner Avenue, Edinger Avenue — are the same wide streets the city’s Vision Zero plan is now trying to fix. Beverly Law’s office is at 4929 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 960, Los Angeles, CA 90010, about 35 miles up the I-5 from Santa Ana. We represent Santa Ana clients by phone, video and WhatsApp, and we meet in person in Orange County by appointment; most clients never need to drive to Los Angeles. Call 1 (877) 427-2752 (24/7) or message us on WhatsApp in English or Spanish.

Fast arterials, dense neighborhoods, three freeways and a lot of people on foot.
Santa Ana sits on the I-5 and is cut by SR-55 (the Costa Mesa Freeway) and SR-22 (the Garden Grove Freeway); the interchanges at the 5/55 and 5/22 produce rear-end and lane-change crashes every rush hour. The real injury problem is on the surface streets: Bristol Street, Harbor Boulevard, Main Street, First Street, 17th Street, McFadden Avenue, Warner Avenue and Edinger Avenue are wide, fast and lined with bus stops, schools and shopping — which is why so many Santa Ana crashes involve pedestrians and cyclists.
In the California Office of Traffic Safety’s 2023 rankings, Santa Ana had 1,972 people killed or injured in crashes and ranked 4th-worst of the 15 California cities with more than 250,000 residents. It ranked 3rd for speed-related crashes (319), 3rd for child pedestrians hurt (17), 4th for bicyclists (115), 5th for pedestrians overall (157), 5th for hit-and-run injury crashes (229) and 5th for nighttime crashes (219) (OTS Crash Rankings, 2023). The city’s own Vision Zero plan update cites the same OTS data and names Flower Street, Edinger Avenue, Segerstrom Avenue, MacArthur Boulevard and Dyer Road as its next priority corridors.
The most serious injuries go to UCI Medical Center in Orange (Level I trauma center) or Orange County Global Medical Center on North Tustin Avenue in Santa Ana (Level II). If a lawsuit is needed it is filed in the Orange County Superior Court, Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana, CA 92701.
On city streets the collision report comes from the Santa Ana Police Department; on the I-5, SR-55 and SR-22 it comes from the CHP Santa Ana Area office. We pull the report for our clients at no cost.
Speeding on arterials, unprotected left turns, red-light running at the big intersections, drivers who leave the scene and — late at night — alcohol. Many of our Santa Ana clients were hit by drivers carrying only the state-minimum policy, so we check the client’s own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage on day one. If a City of Santa Ana vehicle, an OCTA bus or a dangerous road condition contributed, a government claim is due within six months.
The first three days shape your entire claim. This is the order that matters.
Source: California DMV accident reporting (Veh. Code § 16000).
Rear-end, intersection T-bones, freeway pile-ups and left-turn crashes.
18-wheelers, big rigs and delivery trucks — several companies may share liability.
Unsafe lane changes and left-turn crashes that riders pay for in road rash and fractures.
Crosswalks, bus stops and streets with no sidewalk — often hit-and-run.
Which policy applies depends on what the driver’s app was doing at that moment.
Hit-and-run is common in California. You may still recover through your uninsured-motorist coverage.
Premises liability against property owners, landlords and businesses.
Two years from the date of death to file. We handle the claim so the family doesn’t have to.
Miss the deadline and the claim is gone, no matter how strong it was.
Deadlines can be shorter or longer depending on the facts. Talk to a lawyer before assuming yours has passed.
Everyone is responsible for injuries caused to others by their want of ordinary care or skill. In a Santa Ana crash, liability may be shared among drivers, employers, or public agencies.
You generally have two years from the date of injury to file a personal injury lawsuit in California. Claims against public entities must be presented within six months.
California is not a no-fault state. Juries assign a percentage of fault to everyone involved and reduce damages by that percentage — with no cutoff. Even if you are found 90% at fault, you still recover 10% of your damages. If your damages are $100,000 and you are 30% at fault, you recover $70,000.
If the City of Santa Ana, OCTA, Caltrans or any other public entity is responsible — a city vehicle, a bus, a missing crosswalk, a broken signal — a written government claim must be presented within six months of the crash, before any lawsuit. Missing it usually ends the case.
Since January 1, 2025 the minimum policy is $30,000 per person / $60,000 per accident / $15,000 property damage. When the at-fault driver has only that, no insurance or fled, your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage pays — and it covers hit-and-run when the crash is reported to police within 24 hours.
Drunk driving, handheld phone use and leaving the scene are each negligence per se. When the driver was drunk, punitive damages are available under Taylor v. Superior Court (1979) 24 Cal.3d 890, which the driver pays personally. Hit-and-run is a felony under § 20001; for the victim it is usually an uninsured-motorist claim.
This summary is general information, not legal advice. Every case depends on its specific facts.
Emergency care, surgery, therapy, future treatment, lost wages, lost earning capacity, property damage and out-of-pocket costs. Not capped in California.
Pain, suffering, disfigurement, loss of normal life and loss of consortium. Capped only in medical malpractice cases.
The variables that move the number most: how serious and how permanent the injury is, whether you treated consistently, how clear fault is, and — very often the real ceiling — how much insurance is actually available.
One in three US drivers is uninsured or underinsured. California’s minimums rose on January 1, 2025 to $30,000 / $60,000 / $15,000 — the first increase since 1967, and still nowhere near a hospital stay. Your own UM/UIM coverage often becomes the real source of recovery, and it usually covers hit-and-run too.
Nothing up front. No attorney fee unless we win. Whether case costs are deducted from a recovery is explained in your written fee agreement. Beverly Law works on contingency: the fee is a percentage of the recovery, agreed in writing before we start.
A Santa Ana injury lawsuit is filed in the Orange County Superior Court. Civil cases for the whole county are heard at the Central Justice Center, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana, CA 92701 — a few blocks from City Hall and the Santa Ana Police Department headquarters. Orange County civil cases follow their own local rules and case-management calendars, and judges here expect a case to be worked up before it is filed.
Most Santa Ana claims settle with the insurer before a lawsuit is ever filed. When one is needed, we file it, handle every hearing and prepare you for your deposition. Visit the Orange County Superior Court website for courthouse information.
The freeways and arterials where Santa Ana injury crashes cluster — several of them named in the city’s Vision Zero plan.
We represent injured people throughout Santa Ana and the surrounding Orange County communities: Downtown, Floral Park, French Park, South Coast Metro, Artesia-Pilar, Delhi, Madison Park, and neighbors in Tustin, Orange, Garden Grove and Costa Mesa.

What happens after you call, and what it costs.
The first offer arrives before anyone knows how badly you are hurt, and signing it ends the claim. Our team includes former insurance adjusters who know exactly how carriers value Orange County claims. We take every call from the insurance company; you do not give a recorded statement.
A claim with clear fault and finished treatment can settle in three to six months. Serious injuries, disputed fault or several insurers take longer, and a case filed in Orange County Superior Court commonly takes one to two years — though most still settle before trial. We do not rush a settlement before your doctors know whether you will need future care.

Results shown on our About page include a $2,500,000 settlement after an initial offer of $100,000, and Lyft and Uber accident settlements after initial offers of $60,000 and $30,000. Results vary. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
