An 8-year-old girl was killed and five other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rider Street and Ramona Expressway in Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The crash was reported around 5:36 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Responding deputies found five injured occupants in one of the vehicles — two of them with life-threatening injuries — and the driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was also injured. Everyone involved was rushed to local hospitals.
Updated August 24, 2026: Silvia Corona was released from custody after posting a $250,000 bond, according to City News Service reporting published by Patch, which cited jail records. The same report states that a sheriff’s bail-setting affidavit says an intake blood sample showed a 0.28% blood-alcohol concentration, and that Corona is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 1 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. The outcome of the initial court appearance that had been set for Monday, Aug. 24 had not been reported as of this update. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Updated August 21, 2026: Silvia Corona is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday, Aug. 24, before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Gary Polk at the Riverside Hall of Justice, according to MyNewsLA. MyNewsLA reported that the amended complaint filed Thursday charges Corona with second-degree murder and four counts of DUI resulting in great bodily injury, that prosecutors allege she had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.28% — more than three times the legal limit — and that she is being held in lieu of $1 million bail after being re-arrested. MyNewsLA also reported that Camila’s 12-year-old brother remained in critical condition at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital as of Friday. Corona has not entered a plea and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

KTLA, citing a GoFundMe campaign for the family, reported that Camila’s brother and father remain in critical condition and her mother is in stable condition. Updated August 18, 2026: The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested 52-year-old Silvia Corona of San Jacinto on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol, and booked her at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center, according to CBS News Los Angeles and MyNewsLA. No conviction has been reported, and Corona is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The girl, identified as Camila Leon of Perris, was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and a second juvenile passenger remained hospitalized in critical condition Sunday, as reported by MyNewsLA. According to KTLA, one of the vehicles caught fire and firefighters extinguished the flames. The sheriff’s Perris station Traffic Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the crash.
