A 36-year-old Desert Hot Springs man was killed when his motorcycle collided with an SUV on North Indian Canyon Drive in unincorporated North Palm Springs, according to the California Highway Patrol. As reported by KESQ News Channel 3, the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, when a gray Kia Niro traveling west on Teagarden Drive was making a left turn onto Indian Canyon Drive and the motorcycle struck it.
Updated August 18, 2026: The California Highway Patrol identified the motorcyclist killed as 36-year-old Lester Cordero of Desert Hot Springs, according to KESQ News Channel 3. The CHP said a 61-year-old Desert Hot Springs woman driving a silver Kia turned left from westbound Teagarden Drive onto North Indian Canyon Drive and entered the motorcycle’s path, and that alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, KESQ reported. According to MyNewsLA, first responders arriving at the crash found the rider trapped beneath a vehicle. The CHP said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, as reported by KESQ. The rider’s name had not been publicly released in the reports we reviewed; the Riverside County coroner’s office responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the CHP, and no findings of fault have been reported.
