A Bexar County jury has found a San Antonio man guilty in connection with a March 14, 2017 crash that killed a 50-year-old pedestrian in the 9600 block of San Pedro Avenue. According to news reports, the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and died. The verdict came nearly a decade after the crash, following a long court process that included an earlier trial that ended when a juror contracted COVID-19.
The San Antonio Express-News, in a story syndicated by Yahoo, reported that the jury found the defendant guilty of intoxication manslaughter, manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid after about two hours of deliberation and seven days of testimony. KSAT reported that an early responding officer testified he smelled intoxicants on the driver and saw the pedestrian unconscious on the ground. Each charge is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years, and the same jury was set to decide punishment.
