A Wylie ISD bus driver has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Interstate 20 near Tye in Taylor County, Texas. The collision allegedly happened around 2:45 a.m. on October 17, when a man who had gotten out of his vehicle on the side of the interstate was struck. According to court documents, a truck allegedly hit the pedestrian first and a Wylie ISD school bus allegedly struck him about three seconds later.
BigCountryHomepage.com reported that the driver was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a charge of collision involving death, with bond reported at $50,000. Court documents allege bus camera footage showed the driver appearing to watch a video on his phone around the time of impact, and that he stopped, looked at the bus for about 30 seconds and then drove away. Wylie ISD said the driver told the district he believed he hit road debris, and that district staff contacted law enforcement after learning of a possible link to an earlier accident. These are allegations, and the investigation is ongoing.
