A 66-year-old man from Massachusetts died and three other people were hurt in a head-on crash at FM 969 and Blakey Drive in Bastrop, Texas, on the evening of Tuesday, October 6, 2026. According to a Bastrop Police Department release reported by FOX 7 Austin, a bicyclist had stopped on the shoulder to adjust his chain when a southbound Dodge Ram, driven by a teenager, swerved into the northbound lane and struck a Nissan Rogue head-on. The Nissan then hit a fence and came to rest in a pasture, and a northbound Subaru also collided with the Ram. The Nissan’s driver died at the scene.
WPRI reported that the man who died was from New Bedford, Massachusetts, and was in Texas on a work trip. FOX 7 Austin reported that the Ram’s driver and the Subaru’s driver were taken to a local hospital, and the Nissan’s passenger was taken to an Austin hospital. The bicyclist was not injured. Police have said the investigation is ongoing, and the exact cause and any fault have not been officially determined. Families facing a sudden loss like this often have questions about who may be responsible and what options they have.
